Renovation project - Problem solving on a budget

Renovation project - Problem solving on a budget

Now for the big brain wave of what to do with the boxing in, rather than just boxing in the pipes John is going to make the boxing in big enough to be seats, this would mean fixed seats in the kitchen, so that a small table can be added if required or we can just place some French style cushions on it so
that the kitchen will be a really sociable room!

This will be made by adding some strong batons to the wall and making a frame, the seats will be made from floorboards, John will be able to use his router to make a decorative edge but for now they will just be left unfinished.

We have removed some old internal doors from upstairs and these will be the fronts of the seats so this will be a very inexpensive solution to our dilemma.

The wood will be stained the same colour as the worktops and the fronts will be painted white to match the rest of the kitchen.

John is now just upset that he has to install a new electric lead to the fridge which will be on the opposite side of the room and the ceiling is finished so he cannot hide the wire!

Somehow this becomes my fault, as apparently it was me that said we definitely were not having the kitchen on both sides!

We also now have an extra shopping trip to buy the new extra kitchen cupboard doors.

  1. Hi Jenny & John, it looks like you guys are steaming through this renovation, I think you might need a wider seat for my hind quarters, I am loving the cooker and the wiring thing that would have been my fault too but I would say maybe there should have been a socket put in just in case, it is like when John is driving and he relies on me to tell him if anything is coming at a junction, I say I can only advise but you should look anyway lol

  2. Nice solution, now why not remove a few floor tiles and put the cable for the other outlet in the floor?

    1. thanks, we should be able to run the new wire under the new seating and behind the skirting board so not too much of a problem now
